Colour Separation

Colourtone Group is one of the leading colour separation houses in U.A.E. We have been providing top quality pre-press works and services to our customers since the company established in 2000.

Let's start with a definition of what color separation is and how it's used by printers. Color Separations are artwork and photographs split into component plates of the four colors cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK) in preparation for process printing. In graphic arts, cyan, magenta, and yellow are also known as Subtractive Primary Colors because along with black, they are the ink colors used in color-process printing.

Process of splitting a full-colour image into separate colour layers to allow professional printing. Typically the minimum number of colours is three (cyan, magenta, and yellow) plus black.

Graphics software is used to analyse the image and produce four different colour pictures that will recreate the original image when overlaid. This process is used by magazines and newspapers - control colour blocks printed on the page (usually near the fold or spine) show how many colours are used, since simple three-colour separation is often not sufficient for true photographic reproduction.

Separating a picture by colours in order to make negatives and plates for colour printing. The four-color process requires four separations: cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYK).

Process whereby illustrative material is reproduced in colour on the printed page. The four-colour process is used to produce a complete range of colours. In this process, the material to be reproduced is separated into three basic colours plus black, which is used for density and image contrast.
